Regional Study Tour

A study tour at the start of the program enables participants to visit important historical and cultural sites in the region and to meet officials and activists in the region. Our tour goes from Albania, Montenegro, Croatia (Dubrovnik), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia.

DRAFT AGENDA

Day One – Sunday, June 23 (KRUJA- SHENGJIN)

  • Leave from the Hotel at 6:00 AM
  • Arrive in Krujë at 10:30 (Albania). (Approximately 5 hours’ drive from Prishtina)
  • Visit the Krujë castle and the Skenderbeg national museum: the castle in the city of Krujë, Albania and the center of Skenderbeg’s battle against the Ottoman The castle withstood three massive sieges from the Turks, with garrisons usually no larger than 2,000-3,000 men. Mehmed II “The Conqueror” himself could not break the castle’s small defenses. Today it is a center of tourism in Albania, and a source of inspiration to Albanians.
  • Take away lunch and souvenir shopping 12:00 PM -1:00 PM
  • Departure to Shengjin (Shëngjin is a coastal town and a former municipality in Lezhë County, northwestern Albania. 12:45 PM
  • Check into Hotel 2:30 PM

Day Two –Monday,  June 24 (BUDVA) 

  • Departure to Budva, Montenegro 08:30 AM
  • Arrival in Sveti Stefan 11:00 AM (SS is a small islet and 5-star hotel resort on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro, approximately 6 kilometres southeast of Budva.
  • Free beach time (ask coordinator) 11:00 – 1:00 PM
  • Check in hostel 2:00 PM
  • Free time

Day Three –Tuesday, June 25 (DUBROVINK)

  • Departure to Dubrovnik 6:00 AM
  • Take away breakfast
  • Arrive in Dubrovnik 10:00 AM
  • Visit to RIT Croatia 10:30 – 12:00 Noon – Lecture by Dr. Ivo Banac – History of Dubrovnik
  • Lunch 12:30 – 1:30 PM
  • Old town tour and Visit to Museums, City Walls: 1:30 – 6:00  pm
  • Meeting point TBD at 6:30 PM to depart to Mostar
  • Arrival in Mostar 10:00 PM

Day Four – Wednesday, June 26 (MOSTAR & SARAJEVO)

  • Meet OSCE (Organization of Security and Cooperation and Europe) Head of Office 9:30 – 11:00
  • Visit the OLD BRIDGE MUSEUM, KOSKI MEHMED PASA MOSQUE, Carsija (traditional market) and lunch 11:00 – 1:30
  • Departure to Sarajevo 1:30 PM
  • Arrival in Sarajevo (check in hotel) 2:00 PM
  • Rest until 3:00 PM
  • Departure to the city by bus 3:30 PM
  • Sarajevo Sightseeing Guided tour and dinner 4:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Free time

Day Five – Thursday, June 27 (SARAJEVO)

  • Breakfast in hotel 8:00 AM (Sarajevo)
  • Meetings with officials and civil society
  • Lunch 11:30 – 1:00 PM (TBA)
  • Meeting with officials & civil society TBA (ask student coordinator) 1:00 – 4:00 PM
  • Free time

Day Six – Friday, June 28 (SREBRENICA & BELGRADE)

  • Early departure to Srebrenica 7:00 AM
  • A guided tour of Srebrenica (a broader talk on impact of war and forced movement of populations. 10:00 – 12:00 PM
  • Take Away Lunch
  • Departure to Belgrade, Serbia 1:30 PM
  • Arrival Belgrade 7:00 PM
  • Free night time in Belgrade 8:00 PM – 00:00 PM

Day Seven – Saturday, 29 June (BELGRADE)

  • Breakfast at 8:00 AM
  • Meetings with officials 9:00 – 11:30 (ask coordinator)
  • Lunch 12:30 – 2:30 PM
  • Meeting point TBD (ask coordinator)
  • A visit to the House of Flowers and its accompanying museums dedicated to the memory of Josip Broz Tito offer visitors a glimpse into the legacy of socialist Yugoslavia. 3:30 -5:00 PM
  • Meeting with Youth Initiative & City tour 5:30 – 7:30 PM
  • Free time 8:00- 00:00

Day Eight – Sunday, 30 June (SKOPJE)

  • Departure to Prishtina 10:30  am
  • Arrival in Prishtina 3:30 pm
